War Horse Challenge Rider,
Ryen Overlin

United States Army, Special Operations

Ryen Overlin, a retired Army communicator with a decorated history of supporting Special Operations Forces, has found a new sense of purpose and belonging through War Horses for Veterans. After over 20 years of service, transitioning from the military can often leave a void, but War Horses has reignited the camaraderie and brotherhood Ryen once cherished.

Introduced to the program by a fellow veteran, Jake Draper, Ryen quickly recognized the value it held. War Horses provided him not only with the opportunity to connect with others who share similar experiences but also a chance to reignite his passion for horsemanship. Despite being relatively new to riding, Ryen has embraced the challenge with determination and vigor.

Participating in the War Horse Challenge for the NSHA is more than just a competition for Ryen; it's a testament to the adaptability and spirit of veterans. It's an opportunity to push his own limits as a rider, to showcase the talent and resolve of those involved in the War Horses program, and to reinforce the message that this initiative is more than just a program—it's a community of relentless individuals supporting each other through their shared experiences.

For Ryen, this challenge symbolizes more than just a friendly competition; it's a celebration of newfound purpose, solidarity, and the unwavering spirit of those who have served their country.

Furthermore, War Horses has empowered Ryen to pay it forward by becoming a mentor to others in the program. Having experienced firsthand the transformative impact of War Horses, Ryen is passionate about guiding and supporting fellow veterans on their journey towards healing and rediscovery. As a mentor, he finds deep fulfillment in being able to offer his insights, encouragement, and support to others who are navigating their own paths during/after military service. Through his role as a mentor, Ryen not only reinforces his own sense of purpose but also embodies the ethos of service and camaraderie that defines the War Horses community.
