War Horses for Veterans offers a unique, one-day communication course designed to support a minimum of 10 and maximum of 12 veterans and first responders in building essential life and leadership skills through hands-on, experiential learning.

This program emphasizes communication, self-awareness, and personal development by integrating classroom learning with dedicated time working alongside horses. Participants begin the day with team-building activities and horse grooming, setting the foundation for understanding individual communication styles and leadership approaches in a dynamic, supportive environment.

Throughout the day, attendees gain insights into personal communication, the impact of clarity and presence in relationships, and the value of self-regulation. Open discussion, self-evaluation, and group collaboration are central to the experience, with all attendees encouraged, but not required to interact directly with horses.

The course runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an option to adjust the schedule to 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. if requested. Lunch is provided for all participants, and dietary restrictions should be communicated in advance. Comfortable, outdoor-appropriate clothing is recommended, and participants must wear closed-toe footwear, such as work boots, hiking boots, or cowboy boots.

To gauge impact, participants complete an intake assessment upon arrival sharing their expectations for the day. At the end of the program, a post-course evaluation allows them to reflect on what they’ve learned, assess changes in their stress levels, and provide feedback on the overall experience.

A participation fee of $75.00 per person is requested; however, this can be waived for agencies or individuals facing budget constraints. Attendees requiring accommodations due to disabilities or injuries should contact the instructor beforehand to ensure the best possible support.
